Southern Ohio fire station in violation of fire code, marshal says ...
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The state fire marshal’s office says a southern Ohio fire station is violating the state fire code and must assign firefighters to keep a 24-hour fire-watch at the station to keep it open.
State fire marshal’s spokesman Shane Cartmill said Wednesday that an anonymous complaint last week alleged the fire-detection and alarm system at Chillicothe station was not working. He says an inspector found violations that must be corrected. The department could face fines of up to $1,000 a day per violation if corrections aren’t made.
Fire Chief Bruce Vaughan says part of the system was removed during renovations in the building and the problems are being corrected.
Cartmill says finding code violations at a fire station is unusual. The state doesn’t inspect stations unless there are complaints.
