Veteran, Mother of 3 Killed in Motorcycle Crash
ALDEN, NY - The small community of Alden is a town with patriotic pride evident at every banner and flying flag but the hearts here are heavy for two graduates of Alden Central High School killed in a motorcycle accident early Sunday morning.
Deputies say Christopher Marchewka, 29, and his passenger Maureen O'Grady,29, both of Alden, were killed after Marchewka lost control of the motorcycle he was driving on Route 20-A in Wales Center.
"They had a lot of connections and a lot of people are going to miss both of them very much," said Nicole Ryan, who graduated from Alden High in 2000 with both of them.
Ryan described Marchewla like this; "easy to get along with, a good guy".
One of Marchewka's friends told 2 On Your Side that Marchewka enlisted in the military shortly after September 11, 2001 and served one tour of duty in Iraq. While there, a friend says Christopher stopped a vehicle with an I-E-D from entering an area full of U.S. military members. His comrade says he will be missed.
As for Maureen;
"Maureen was a very fun loving kind of person very spirited, great smile., always smiling having a good time," said Ryan. "She was a mother of three."
On Monday, investigators re-created the accident scene to see just how that mother of three and the military hero were killed.
"At this time we still do not know what caused them to lose control of the bike. There was no other vehicles involved as far as we know. We don't know if a deer ran out in front of them or another animal," said Sgt.Daniel Dytchkowski of the Erie County Sheriff's Department
Deputies are continuing to investigate just what led to the crash.

The preliminary investigation indicates Amrom Lowy, age 35, Monroe, New York, was traveling north on the highway when he stopped in the far right lane of travel. A motorcycle operated by Frederick J. Dapice, age 63, Hancock, New York drove into the rear of the stopped vehicle. Mr. Dapice was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene. Broome County Coroner Doctor John C.
