Portland High grad wins 2nd place in duct tape scholarship contest
Danielewicz and her prom date Frankie Fazzino attended their May 6 prom decked out in a hand-made duct tape ensemble that the pair created over 145 hours and 45 rolls of colored duct tape. The ensembles were entered into the 11th annual Duck Brand Duct Tape “Stuck at Prom” Scholarship contest, and earlier this week Danielewicz was informed that her and Frankie’s creation had earned them the national contest’s second place prize. Danielewicz’s dress, shoes, corsage, bag, earrings and hair clip were all constructed out of duct tape or covered in it. The dress itself weighed 15 pounds and consisted of pure duct tape folded back onto itself. Fazzino’s suit jacket was pure duct tape and his pants were constructed from duct tape placed over the top of actual pants. His shirt was fabric, but the rest of his outfit, including his boutonnière, vest and tie were all made from the tape. In 2011, more than 330 couples from 44 states and four Canadian provinces flaunted duct tape attire to prom. Over the past 11 years, more than 6,330 students from all 50 U.S. states and seven Canadian provinces have entered their duct tape outfits for a chance to win big. To date, more than $184,000 in scholarship money has been given to students and schools.
