Now that Charlie Sheen is locked in for the gig, there shouldn't be any lack of material for Comedy Central's next roast.
Reps from the network said Monday that the former "Two and a Half Men" star will be its latest roastee. The special, built around comics who deliver raunchy zingers directed at the featured star, is scheduled to tape in Los Angeles on Sept. 10 and debut on Comedy Central at 10 p.m. Sept. 19.
"You could say I've been providing kindling for this roast for a while," Sheen, 45, said in a statement.
It was an exceptionally busy one for the beleaguered Sheen: He was fired from his CBS sitcom high salary in March and quickly followed with a poorly planned tour of comedy and especially panoramic started at Fox Theatre Detroit on April 2 for a rowdy chorus of jeers.
Interestingly, Comedy Central Roast Sheen scheduled for the same CBS Monday will launch the eighth season of "Two and a Half Men", which will now star Ashton Kutcher. Kutcher "Men" will be broadcast beginning 21 hours
Sheen, to his credit, did not make a bad boy headlines in recent months. Besides signing on for the September roast, he's going to join the Insane Clown Posse's Gathering of the Juggalos festival for one night. The Gathering is scheduled to run Aug. 11-14 at Cave-in-Rock, Ill.
Sheen's camp has hinted that a return to series TV is imminent, but that remains unconfirmed.
Comedy Central had hoped to get Kid Rock in the hot seat. But the previously announced Aug. 14 taping of Rock's roast -- following his two Comerica Park shows Aug. 12-13 -- has been canceled.
