Flag Day celebrated in Great Falls
Flag Day was celebrated in Great Falls, with two special ceremonies highlighting the occasion.
The first took place in the morning at Overlook Park, and featured an F-15 fly-over from the Montana Air National Guard.
Later in the day, Masons presented the Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art with its very own United States and Montana flags.
The Square has had a pole in place for years, but it was bent and the museum director didn't want to disgrace the flag by placing it atop a bent pole.
That's when the Masons stepped up to help.
Kathy Lear, executive director of PGSMA, said, "They did approach us a couple of months ago and inquired about what they could do and offered to donate these flags, which were wonderful. They also found a way to fix the flagpole for us, so we're just really, really glad."
Dewey Goering of the Masons explained, "It was flown over the U.S. Capitol on May 2nd and then sent here. They had the state flag flown over the state capitol and then shipped here to present to Paris Gibson Square."
Today's presentation included a history on both the American and Montana flags.

The First Continental Congress convened in Philadelphia in 1774 under the Presidency of Peyton Randolph, who succeeded Washington as Grand Master of the Virginia Lodge. The Second Continental Congress convened in 1775 under the Presidency of Freemason John Hancock. Peytons brother William succeeded him as Virginia Lodge Grand Master and became the leading proponent of centralization and federalism at the First Constitutional Convention in 1787. The federalism at the heart of the US Constitution is identical to the federalism laid out in the Freemasons Anderson s Constitutions of 1723 . His family returned to England loyal to the Crown. John Marshall, the nations first Supreme Court Justice, was also a Mason. [3]
