ABCs of diabetes: City's education program wants patients to take control

THE LOCAL CAMPAIGN

For more information about the Know Your Diabetes ABCs campaign by the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health & Wellness, call (502) 574-6663.

KNOW YOUR NUMBERS
Local health officials are encouraging type 2 diabetics to know their ABCs — A1C, blood pressure and cholesterol — to try to reduce the risk of complications from the disease. Generally, these diabetics are asked to meet these goals, but see your doctor for personalized advice:

The A1C goal is below 7.
The blood pressure goal is below 130/80.
The LDL (low-density lipoprotein or “bad” cholesterol) goal is below 100.
The HDL (high-density lipoprotein or “good” cholesterol) goal is above 40.

The department also wants to draw attention to its diabetes services, such as an educational series on managing the disease that has new sessions starting in July. Diabetes educators from the department assist with Active Steps for Diabetes, a Bellarmine University program with classes that help diabetics become more physically active, when it's in session.

It took me four days of chest stretching, essentially inflating your chest my using your rib cage muscles and hence opening your chest cavity. It slows your breathing and removes pressure on the heart, veins and arteries in the body’s core. If you’re confused on why your bp is so high, I was too. I dropped the medicine and do this stretch daily. 4 days is a long time, but you don’t have to stretch much. Try it, you’ll live longer.

I had been experiencing high blood pressure for 10 years. Chemicals only brought it down to border line, so I searched the Internet for an alternative that was 100 per cent safe. I started using Levodyn with the chemicals at first, now I just take the Levodyn occasionally. My blood pressure is like a young person’s. I don’t get any palpitations that I still would get with chemicals, and I feel a much calmer person. I would definitely recommend Levodyn.

@autiepattyann Hi autiepattyann, Yes I have continued but not on a regular schedule that I wished I could train myself to do but I do them when I remember and I feel way better than before. I have also lost 13 lbs since then so I don’t know which is doing the trick. I haven’t checked my bp since then because the machines at the super market seemed to be unreliable. I know for sure next time I visit the doctor. Let you know then. Thanks,

@yogatic I tried your exercises for just 2 days and it seem to reduce my systolic pressure (higher number) by almost 20 points, however the diastolic (lower) number remains high and my doctor had said before that he was more concerned about that number. Any information on if there is another exercise I could do to help the lower number or over longer period of time, that number will improve as well. Thanks, great video!

I hate to be a nay sayer but when does drugs become medication? A PBS show stated that 90% of the cost goes to advertising and promotion! Did you ever read the side effects? They can kill you! Most Drs. have investment in drug companies. Hear that KACHING? That you/me/Uncle Sam paying the Drs. so they can have a house in NY, Hawaii, FL and et al. A hospital is a insane assilum and you are held captive. You cannot leave without the psychiatrist permission and they take everything. Stress?
