Poh Kong plans retail outlet expansion in Sarawak

She said the company was eyeing the East Malaysian market as the outlook for gold jewellery was actually growing.

“Our brand of gold ornaments and fine jewellery are well accepted, especially in the Peninsular, so we want to understand customers’ needs and taste for jewellery in Sarawak,” she told a press conference in conjunction with Poh Kong’s five-day ‘Dazzling Jewellery Preview’ here yesterday.

At present, Poh Kong has 98 retail outlets in Peninsular Malaysia, mainly confined to the Klang Valley and big cities but there was only one franchise outlet in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, she added.

Poh Kong’s net profits rose 39 per cent to RM9.05 million for the third quarter ended April 30, 2011 from RM6.47 million chalked up in the corresponding quarter. Revenue for the quarter rose 28 per cent to RM169.45 million against RM132.74 million chalked up previously.

On the East Malaysian preview, which was part of the company’s anniversary celebration to introduce Poh Kong’s varied jewellery brands, Choon was optimistic it would attract jewellery lovers here.

Apart from its ‘Tranz Gold’ house brand jewellery, jade and other selections of diamonds and gems set in white and rose gold were being showcased during the exhibition.

She said Poh Kong was also the exclusive distributor for top selling foreign brands of jewellery like Schoeffel, Luca Carati and Verdi Gioielli.
