Maple Grove Farmers Market Opens for Summer Season

If you enjoy the taste of home grown produce or appreciate the flavors of locally made baked goods, honey and jams, you won’t find a better selection than at the Maple Grove Farmers Market, according to John and Anna Mau. They have been growing and selling their produce at the Farmers Market for the last eight years.

“Maple Grove’s Farmers Market is such a great event, not only can you find the freshest produce, but its such a tradition now for families to come shop, taste and learn something new each week,” said Anna Mau with Mau Family Produce. 

Mau said although it’s been a tough and rainy spring for growing vegetables, they will have a wide variety of tomatoes, squash, peppers, cauliflower and broccoli just in time for today's opening day at the Maple Grove Community Center.  

Market Coordinator Carol Morris said everyone has been working hard for the last year to make this year’s event better than the past. 

“We are so excited, everyone has been working to solicit farmers and vendors plus trying to plan a variety of activities. It’s exciting to see it all come together,” Morris said.

She said more than 55 vendors from across Minnesota will be set up every Thursday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. until the end of September (3 p.m. to 6 p.m. through Oct. 20) and will be selling more than just fruits and vegetables.  

“When you come, you will find the best selections in locally grown flowers, plants not to mention locally raised eggs, meat and dairy selections, plus homemade syrups, sauces and more,”  she said.

Besides tasting and shopping among the freshest of foods, Morris said there will be family entertainment, food demonstrations and family story time every Thursday at 4:30pm.

New this year, there will be canning demonstrations since the Maple Grove Farmers Market was one of 50 markets nationwide to win a “Discover You Can” grant from the Ball Canning Corporation. 

Market Manager Kirsten Bansen Weigle said canning is the "number one" growing trend allowing market shoppers to preserve their summer’s best produce and then be able to enjoy it year round. 

Thanks to receiving the grant, there will be free coupons for canning items, cookbooks and weekly giveaways for shoppers as well as a canning demonstration Thursday, June 16. 

“So make sure you come hungry and bring your family and friends, you won’t want to miss this years event. There will be lots of great food onsite to taste and take home for later,” Bansen Weigle said.

Farmers Market is open every Thursday until 30 September, from 0.3 to 7 hours and the first three Thursday in October, from 3 to 18:00 outside the Community Center in Maple Grove 0,12951 Weaver Lake Road.

Said Kirsty Bansen Weigle, Maple Grove Farmers Marketing Manager: "We have a lot of new elements to the farmers market this year."

She said that one of the new things that come to market is to identify possible program. The program will give astronauts market information, tools and confidence to keep the market fresh food.

"We have a place in the heart of society, in fact, lead to all kinds of meetings, family reunions clubs training business events in the network," she said. The last new element Bansen Weigle market tour this year. The tour will be held on Thursday, the second and fourth day of each month at 3:30 pm and 6:00 pm

"This will be regular tours, designed to help people feel comfortable in the trade market," she added. "We are waiting for official participation to look behind the scenes and people who are interested in marketing, but I'm not sure" that it will market "rules." Will attend the round of 15 to 20 minutes. "
